Dave Mustaine VS The UN
Posted July 11, 2007 by dgefrshCategories: Music, Politics
Is this even a fair fight? I think not. I mean, who wants to mess with Dave Mustaine?
Megadeth has just released a new album, and you know, it’s about time I gave these guys another spin.
It’s the lack of outrage that has Mustaine outraged. “Why doesn’t Michael Moore do an expose on the UN?” he asked, adding, “When I see Syria on the Security Council [in 2002-2003], am I supposed to feel secure? It’s mad….They just rely on UNICEF, this one good thing they’re doing, to cover up all the stuff that they’re not doing, to put them beyond dissent. I’m not impressed. How long are they going to sit by and watch Hezbollah fire Katyusha rockets into Israel from Lebanon? That’s a question I’d like answered.”
Speaking of Israel, on another track, “Amerikhastan,” Mustaine envisions a dystopian future wherein a “legion of bankrupt souls with a lust for revenge” brings civilization to its knees. “You must ignore the focus groups,” he advises in his melodic howl. “You must send in the Mossad/Turn off the BBC and CNN/And don’t look back.”
Anyone that namedrops the Mossad, bashes the BBC and despises the UN like the violent rash they are deserves this listener’s attention.

It does seem to me that Mr. Mustaine might be a little more clued in than your average American Idiot:
On the roof of a photographer’s studio in a corner of Hollywood so drab it gives Slugh a good name, the three members of Green Day are discussing whether or not to desecrate the American flag. Singer Billie Joe Armstrong, who is dressed in black shirt and skinny red tie, is cautious but keen, while bassis Mike Dirnt, who is bleached blond and much more aloof, is keener still.
“It means nothing to me,” he sneers. “Let’s burn the f*cking thing.”
Only drummer Tre Cool, who is normally the designated prankster of the three and who comes across like Bart Simpson made flesh, offers the lone cautionary voice. “Isn’t it, like, illegal?”

The inestimable Michael Yon:
But as I write these words, the explosions—cannon fire reverberating day and night, rockets exploding on base, the rumbling and crumpling sounds of car bombs—are the very pulse of this war. This war cannot yet be dissected because it still lives– wounded, angry, thrashing on the table, but alive. We can only hack into it, diagnose it, treat it, knowing each attempt at a cure affects the pulse. Doing nothing causes tachycardia. Much of what afflicts Iraq was here before America was born. But when we elected to perform surgery on this sick land, we used hacksaws and sledgehammers, and took an already sick patient and hacked off some parts while pulverizing others.
Meanwhile, there are stadiums full of people shouting at the doctors, threatening to fire them or revoke their licenses, or at the very least to cut off the lights mid-surgery. In the din of the mob, few seem to notice that the patient, screaming to be healed, is much more alive than dead. The patient roils in agony with every new cut, slashing at doctors and self. Some say we’ve done enough and it’s time for the patient to heal itself. Others are saying we should put it out of our misery, but surely this thing will live, and drag its mutilated self out of the hospital and follow us home, no longer seeking a cure but intent on revenge.

Braves Crush Schilling
Posted June 19, 2007 by dgefrshCategories: Baseball, Braves
In a rather pleasant development the Braves pick up their third win of the six I’m claiming they need in interleague play. Schilling never quite had it tonight allowing six runs on ten hits with exactly ZERO strikeouts. Brian McCann led the charge with 4 RBI, three of them coming on a homerun, while Chipper and Edgar Renteria set him up with three hits apiece.
Though the most crucial run of the game was probably pitcher Chuck James’ bloop single to make it 3-1. The Bravos never looked back from there.
Great pitching matchup tomorrow night with Josh Beckett bringing his 9-1 (3.39 ERA) record to Turner Field to face Atlanta hurler Tim Hudson (6-4, 3.25). The Bravs remain 1.5 games back of the first place Nye Mets.
